REG at SMU Research Days: Championing Sustainable Innovation Through Research–Industry Collaboration

As part of SMU Research Days 2025, Respect Environnement Group took part in a high-level round table alongside ECOLOBLOC and EnerNetPro to discuss the role of industry–academia collaboration in building sustainable innovation ecosystems. REG shared its expertise in circular economy, digital waste management, and environmental impact assessment, reinforcing its position as a key player in Tunisia’s ecological transition.

As part of its commitment to advancing environmental innovation in Tunisia, Respect Environnement Group (REG) took part in the round table “The Architecture of Sustainable Innovation”, organized during the SMU Research Days 2025 by South Mediterranean University.

Held on Tuesday, June 3rd, the round table brought together key industry players from the fields of green construction, waste management, and energy, represented respectively by ECOLOBLOC, Respect Environnement Group, and EnerNetPro. The session was moderated by Dr. Lamia Bouaziz, researcher and professor at MedTech.

Sharing REG’s Vision: From Waste to Value

During the discussion, REG presented its experience as a pioneer in digital and field-based solutions for construction and demolition waste (CDW) management. Our intervention emphasized how data-driven and research-supported approaches can help shift the sector from isolated initiatives to a systemic circular economy model.

“At REG, we believe that collaboration with the academic world is essential to accelerate the reuse of building materials, improve waste traceability, and increase public engagement,” said our team during the session.

REG highlighted several strategic research areas of interest, including:

  • Reuse and recycling protocols for construction and demolition waste;
  • The development of digital tools (platforms and apps) for waste reporting and geolocation;
  • Behavioral studies to drive awareness and adoption of circular practices in construction;
  • Impact measurement tools (e.g., carbon footprint, life-cycle analysis) to support sustainable decision-making.

Building Synergies for a Sustainable Future

The round table also provided a valuable space for cross-sector dialogue on how academic institutions can act as catalysts for national sustainability goals, from zero waste cities and net-zero buildings to full renewable energy integration by 2030.

REG reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Tunisia’s green transition by:

  • Facilitating field-based research projects;
  • Offering real-world test environments for innovation;
  • Contributing to multi-stakeholder initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
